My reading of the specs is that the float's before edge should be aligned with the before edge of the line area where the float's anchor is. I cited the relevant part of the specs in a previous email.

Nice try, but the idea in "marginalia" is that it appears on the relevant line. I am using this float to indicate that an inline element has been deleted. It is obviously generated automatically by XSLT when a deleted inline element is found. I don't think it is possible to systematically output the float one line above: some times it will be in a completely different block, other times it will be a few words earlier...
