Hi,
A font-family property can have a list of names as its value, which is great
to combine several fonts for covering a part of the Unicode address space.
It would be interesting to extend this approach to the alias element in the
fonts.xml file. More specifically, its font attribute should also allow a
list of names. This way it is possible for documents and style sheets to use
logical font names such as "monospace", "serif", etc., making them more
portable. Covering a sufficient part of the Unicode repertiore is then a matter
of XEP configuration. It doesn't have to be hard-coded in documents or style
sheets. The actual set of fonts could also evolve without impact on the logical
level.
I don't think it requires a fundamental change in XEP, because the font-family
properties have to be expanded anyway.
Regards,
Werner.
