Is there any good way to find the column index for a table cell while performing an XSLT transformation? This index should properly take into account row and column spans of previous cells.

I have developed some complex XSLT code that looks at the current and previous table rows for row and column spans and adjusts the column index of the current table cell context node appropriately. The problem is that I only check one row back. And much more complicated code would be required to check further. I'm open to any ideas.

    Thanks,
    Bill
