At the point where you want to span 2 columns add
<fo:block span="all"> {your table information} </fo:block>
This will span all the columns set in simple-page-master for all content
nested within the fo:block node. (you can specify a number instead of
"all" if you wish)

Subject: [xep-support] Double column to single column switch
I'm trying to implement a format where the main text is formatted in
two-columns, portrait on an A4 page which then has tables throughout
which are a whole page width (single column). Can anyone point me in the
direction of the best way to do this using XSL + XML -> PDF
Thank you.
