Thanks, Ken. I've only been looking at sections 4.x and 6.x of the spec,
and in there, it isn't obvious that you can assign the font-family attribute
(or virtually any others) at fo:root, fo:flow, etc. After reading 7.8.2, I
see where it says "Applies to: all elements", and that section 6.5.2
(fo:block), for example, states "The following properties *apply* to this
formatting object", which I was reading as "The following properties *can be
assigned* to this formatting object". Since the generic "Common Font
Properties" statement wasn't listed on fo:root, I had assumed that it
couldn't be assigned there. I'll have to take a look at the rest of my code
and see where else I can move inheritable attributes up the chain.
