When I load one of the documents created by XEP in Adobe Reader,
the thumbnails pane is available and shows the thumbnails when
activated.
I suppose it's possible that they are generated on-the-fly by
Reader even though the PDF spec allows for them to be included in
the document. Can someone verify this? It could be done by
generating a PDF using a utility like Distiller that has the
option to explicitly disable thumbnail generation, then viewing
the document in Adobe Reader to determine whether the thumbnails
are still visible. I do not have access to Distiller.
