I had the same problem. Some printers could print the image (HP 4100), while
others could not (HP 4050). RAM was not an issue because older printers had
more RAM. I suspect that the problem is due to firmware version or printer
driver. I have no solution. I transferred printers around the company.

Subject: RE: [xep-support] Postscript Printing Problem
Regarding postscript printing of PDFs created by XEP, I am unable to print a
PDF that contains a GIF image if I use a Postscript setup on my Postscript
printer. If this same GIF image is inserted into an MS Word document and a
PDF is generated via Adobe Distiller, the printing of the PDF via the same
Postscript setup and printer works without error.
The error that is output by the printer when handling the XEP generated PDF
is:
ERROR: typecheck
OFFENDING COMMAND: filter
STACK:
/LZWDecode
-dictionary-
-filestream-
-filestream-
-mark-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello
Has anybody any thoughts as to the nature of the PostScript printing problem
that I have uncovered? Was this issue caused by my incorrect formatting of
the XSL-FO or something more sinister?
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Subject: [xep-support] Postscript Printing Problem
Hello
I'm currently generating PDFs using XEP 3.8 (Java). XEP has proved to be a
great tool for quickly creating PDFs, using the Tutorial and UserGuide
documentation for reference.
However, I am aware that I know very little about any performance tuning
considerations, and also about Postscript printing issues.
The problem is that various subscribers to our service (delivery of products
owned under the service is provided in a variety of formats including PDF)
have reported problems with using Postscript printers to print delivered PDF
content.
For example, one error raised by a subscriber stated that our product
"crashes my HP LaserJet 4050N Postscript Printer (page says ERROR:
typecheck, OFFENDING COMMAND: filter) when printing from Acrobat
Professional 6.02." What adds to my confusion is that the PDF product has
previously been provided to subscribers via Acrobat Distiller generated
content, and the subscribers have stated that no problems occurred
previously with printing the Distiller generated PDFs.
This problem may be related to the fact that the XEP generated PDF has a
size of 225KB but when I choose to print to a Postscript file (choosing
"Print to File" on the File -> Print menu), the size rises to 11MB. PDFs of
the same product type generated via Distiller were of a size 275KB but only
rose to 330KB when I chose "Print to File". Also, the printing of new XEP
generated product (where printing works on my PC, as opposed to the client
that has reported the problem) is noticeable slower as a result.
I'd be grateful for any advice on what I am doing incorrectly.
Attached to this email is some of the sample XSL-FO (I could not attach the
full XSL-FO and get the message to appear on the mailing list).
Thanks
Jez Brewster
