The most probably the cause of the problem is the printer driver.
LZW-compressed images in some printers are treated incorrectly.
As a quick workaround you may convert GIF images to PNG format.
Another option is to upgrade to XEP 4.0 :)
XEP 4.0 internally decodes LZW-encoded images, so output documents will not
contain LZW compression at all.
AFAIK, Acrobat Distiller also decodes LZW images (by default) and reencodes
them according to Distiller options.
